3D-printed pavilion in Marbach, 2024

The Marbach project marks the first on-site 3D-printed building in Switzerland and impresses with its 6.2-meter-high and curved walls.

The project in Marbach marks a significant milestone: Switzerland's first locally printed building has been completed. Holcim, together with Kobelt AG, created a futuristic-looking showroom with an area of 150 m² and curved walls up to 6.2 meters high.

In just 55 printing hours, spread over eight working days, a new landmark for innovative construction was created on the Kobelt AG site. The project combines pioneering design with efficient implementation – a powerful statement for the possibilities of 3D concrete printing.

Holcim purchased the printing system from PERI 3D Construction.

IMPRESSIONS OF THE PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION

Printed visions. Built reality.

Swiss premiere.

Switzerland's first on-site printed building is located in Marbach. It was printed using the COBOD BOD2, supported by our on-site PERI technicians. The complex, curved walls, 6.2 meters high, give the 150 m² building a striking design.

Fast. Precise. Forward-looking.

The walls of the pavilion were extruded in just 55 printing hours over eight working days – an impressive efficiency that sets new standards.

Innovation 3D printing.

The use of a special concrete mix from Holcim, which differs from the commonly used mortar, demonstrates the innovative nature of the project.

From printing to use.

It was printed in March and April 2024. The finished showroom serves not only as a showcase for products but also as a living example of modern, digital construction methods.

Requirements and solutions

Requirements

Implementing a building with a complex geometry and large wall heights in a short time frame placed high demands on the printing strategy, materials, and construction site logistics. It was also the first project of its kind in Switzerland, including approval processes and technical coordination.

Solutions

Thanks to the close collaboration between Holcim, Kobelt AG, and PERI 3D Construction, the printing was completed quickly and successfully. Holcim's special concrete composition enabled high printing speed and stability, while our technicians ensured smooth operations on site.

Customer benefit

With the pavilion in Marbach, Kobelt AG is making an architectural statement and demonstrating how technology, design, and sustainability can be combined. For Holcim, the project is a pioneering step in the Swiss market and a strong demonstration of the power of 3D concrete printing – both in terms of time savings and design freedom.
